A gorgeous new single from Shervin Boloorian is a warm and lush rendition of a classic track we all know well.
The cover of the 1990 Depeche Mode single "Enjoy the Silence" which most people know as "All I Ever Wanted" is so incredibly welcoming and has such an extravagant set of textures to it that it's got its own atmosphere, but it still pays homage to the original version.
This is one of the most impressive aspects of the entire thing to be honest.
This track is put together and built with an entirely different set of instruments and most of it acoustic and natural. The original track was much more digital of course and although it did have electric guitars in it it also had since and things of that nature, so it was more digital than natural.
Shervin's version of the track manages to sound like a love letter to the original song or even to the original songwriters, Depeche Mode. There's so much more space to enjoy and understand the lyrics of the track during this version and I think that for a lot of people it will be an eye-opener.
Even if you're not a fan of Depeche Mode, you've heard the song on the radio for years especially you fewer of a certain age.
I grew up listening to Depeche Mode and bands like them. This track is such an incredible rendition that I can't even fathom it to be honest. I would never imagine where to begin tracking and bringing the people together to create a version of this song that has this kind of aesthetic to it.
It is absolutely beautiful from beginning to end and the performances by all players have this amazing energy to it that lets the song feel completely alive and breathing.
Shervin's vocals on this song are almost like an instrument themselves as they add this gorgeous layer and texture atop the song and come through with passion and this kind of soul that you can feel in your bones.
Having said that, it's not overdone. It's not like that. It's done with a delicate balance between the music and the vocals and how those elements not only balance but sort of push off of each other in a subtle way so that you have this again, sort of very warm approach and tonality.
This track features notes and textures that float through the song's ether and string sections like cellos and violence that add an almost orchestral backbone to the song but by doing so it also lets the song's emotion really shine through as well.
Shervin's approach to the vocals takes all these different elements of the instrumentation themselves and wraps it up into one solid tone and I feel like that's an amazing thing to do whether he just does that on purpose or it's completely natural.
There is a sort of complex beauty to the song as well, and you can tell there was a lot of work involved and there was a lot of attention to detail during the creation of it, but it never loses the heart, and it never loses the homage to the original track. It's got personality to it.
Whether you are a fan of the original Depeche Mode track or you just love this more ethereal, warm, orchestrated, contemporary, and sort of spiritual musical approach, this song will have a big effect on you.
There's a cinematic feel to it and that is attributed to all the musical elements, the vocals, the emotional drive, and the way the song was even mixed.
The balance of energies throughout this single was incredible and I would definitely suggest that you listen to this track with headphones on so you can let everything swim around in the air that surrounds you. It is quite a massive experience doing it that way.
Take a deep dive into this single and see how it affects you.
