A massive new rock banger from Elephant Jane delivers a ferocious and vivacious blend of alternative, garage, and even grunge all meshed together to create something that has super high impact and an absolutely electric energy that doesn't let up for the entire song and throughout it all you can feel your blood start pumping as the track hits like a sucker punch to the gut.
"Swansong" has something about it that makes it feel like the song was recorded live on the floor because everyone involved seems like they're feeding off of each other's energies the whole time and this gives the song a sort of alive and breathing feel.
There's a ton of power and brute force behind this track that shines through and lets the whole thing thrive plus, the song has an intense guitar tone so the entire thing is sonically driving.
By the end of this song, you'll find yourself breathing heavily as if you were the one that was playing it and that's just because of that fierceness and uprising energy behind everything but what grabs you is the surprises around some of the corners of this song and how it's got so much fun and color that it blends in with its edginess.
There are touches of hard-hitting alt rock sections that peek through, but it's also got this thrashing element because it's so fast paced, and everything feels right in your face.
There's great vocal effects and the performance in terms of the vocals themselves is animated in a way so, you get this robust character that comes along with the song as well and it's one of those tracks that lets each instrument and each section complement each other.
The whole thing is insanely infectious and for people who love hard driving and intense rock music, this is 100% for you. You can headbang along with it, sing along with your fists in the air, or move the couch back and wash around your living room to it.
Whatever you do, you certainly won't be able to sit still because again, that's part of the Infectious aspect of this song.
I may be completely wrong about the whole live on the floor recording thing, but listening to this record makes you want to see them play it live simply because if the energy is captured so well on record, then seeing a live performance must be face-melting.
You can hear a slew of influences probably coming from the different band members that make this special and it comes with little hints of nostalgia, especially if you grew up listening to some high-energy, heavy, slightly outside-the-box rock growing up.
There's definitely a lot of attention to detail in a recording like this especially when it comes to the arrangement of the song because it has a certain flow to it and again, there are some surprise elements in there that you don't expect that hit real hard but, there's a lot of heart and personality on this track and that I think is part of what let's this song speak volumes for the band.
This is coming from a group of people who have a pure love for their craft and when I say that I don't mean a person or people who just love playing their instruments or singing, I mean writing a song and putting it out into the world because it needs to be there and you have a passion for it.
I love this track and upon listening to it I took a little bit of a deep dive into the band's back catalog, and I'm glad that I did because there was a slew of releases on their Spotify page starting in 2018 and everything really gives you a good feel for the evolution of how this whole thing is put together and have the sound has changed.
Check this truck out as soon as you can and do not be afraid to turn it nice and loud. Trust me, it sounds better that way.
