A new album released from Jason Lane band delivers a southern sold rock approach that feels like watching a live performance because all the players involved are just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time or at least it seems that way.
This gives the record the effect of being alive and breathing and maybe the whole thing was recorded live on the floor. I'm not sure but either way listening to this record makes you want to go see them live because if the energy is captured on record this well then seeing them live would be amazing.
The Full Steam Ahead album is packed to the brim with character, and it comes through with a certain kind of warmth and vastness in its undertone with some great blues approaches which include everything from organs filling the songs with color and some outstanding guitar parts that just give the song such an added layer of authenticity and soul.
The record also features some outstanding vocal performances that come with that same sort of southern undertone and soul, charisma, character, and everything about these performances seem to complement each other,
Having said that, there are certain songs that feature more of a classic or hard rock element to them still riddled with blues in its underbelly and that attitude comes through shining.
There are more than a few surprises around the corners of this record, and you can tell that this is a group of people that have a pure love for their craft and when I say that I don't just mean playing their instruments or singing, I mean putting songs together and putting them out.
That's what this is. This is a record that gets under your skin in the best ways possible and it serves as a great little escape as well because it has the ability to pull you away from your surroundings for a little chunk of time and just put you in the moment which is kind of a beautiful connection to make musically.
Although most of these songs are very lush, robust, and full-bodied, it's the guitars and vocals that really grab you because those are the elements of the songs that feel animated, and it all works so well that it comes off with a certain charm.
My favorite tracks of this record of the ones that have those really roots blues and even country undertones to them. For example, the very last track on this record is one of my absolute favorites. It's called "Save The Best for Last" and I couldn't agree more.
This track has a punch that it packs but it does so with that deep-rooted country swinging soul, and they pull it off so well which is amazing because this record does actually have a few different approaches and styles to it.
No matter what approach they're going for, the full aesthetic is completely nailed every single time so you can tell this is a group of musicians that are seasoned, they are in love with what they're doing, and they know how to hit the mark to get that sound they're looking for.
This was a full steam ahead album indeed, and it felt great to listen to.
The whole record or most of it, is extremely danceable and comes with an addictive vivaciousness that you just want to hold on to and take home with you.
Definitely take a deep dive into this record when you can and make sure you listen to the whole thing because if you only listen to one or two tracks, then you won't really get the full spectrum of what the album has to offer.
Don't be afraid to turn this one up.
