An album release from Samarka delivers a vast array of expansive tonality in the form of several different songwriting approaches that come together and build an atmosphere you end up falling into and getting engulfed by almost straightaway.
The self-titled album is an ethereal pop style record that incorporates a multitude of other genres and surprises around the corners while all being composed of these gorgeous textures and layers that come together and at times can be emotionally driven but always have this character or personality you end up really enjoying.
You get elements of R&B, Soul, and a lot more that are all delivered with a beautiful passion. The vocals come through smooth but still robust and driving so the entire record has these waves of intensity that come and go which lets the entire thing feel alive and breathing in its own way.
There are amazing synth pads that fill the ether of some of the songs while guitars add flow and a little bit of drive and at times vocals are used as instruments which really add that beautiful soundscape and depth to everything.
These songs can sound a little bit haunting at times but also angelic at others. Certain tracks could put you at peace and it's strange how sometimes that ethereal tonality can feel even spiritual in a way.
I can definitely hear the influence of old-school soul and pop being infused here along with the more current R&B and rich tonality, and all vocals, both male and female, come through with the same robust approach and passion.
This is important because I feel like the delivery of the performances throughout the record is really what makes it so intense and so addictive.
There's something almost theatrical or cinematic about this record as well and the way the songs are built also feel like they are derived from that same combination of classic and vintage songwriting along with an updated approach.
A lot of the record feels honest as well. This is important to me because it lets everything come through with a certain level of authenticity.
It certainly seems like a lot of these songs came from real places and to an extent. This makes it feel almost like it could be a concept record of sorts.
This was an impressive record that really works wonders in terms of letting all of these different element's shine simultaneously.
I definitely feel some of the jazz undertones as well here and there, so you have this beautiful array of influences and Inspirations that have come together to build a record that leaves its mark and let these inner thoughts come out and a beautiful and welcoming manner.
I quite enjoyed everything here and I would suggest that you listen to this record as a whole.
Again, there are different layers to be peeled back in different approaches throughout the record so if you only listen to one or two songs, you're not going to get the full range of what the album has to offer as a whole.
There is certainly a lot to offer here, and I would suggest you soak it all in for what it's worth.
This was beautifully performed and constructed, it was vibrant, charismatic, ethereal, flowing, and all had a lot of soul and personality attached to it.
Beautifully done from beginning to end, have a listen to the self-titled Samarka album and see how it affects you.
I'm sure you will feel something from this record, and I certainly think we need more music like this. Music that makes you think and makes you feel.
