A new single release from Samantha Jessalyn comes through as a wholehearted and honest love song, and it's stripped-down and personal approach is part of why you end up getting so attached to the character of it all.
"Love Notes" is a beautiful track that shares such a warm and welcoming sentiment as she describes how she feels, and it's something a lot of us can relate to if we've been in similar situations, of course.
What grabs me about this track is that one-on-one approach and how it's the kind of song you want to send to the person you love.
Samantha is the kind of artist with a knack for writing songs you can connect with. This is a track you feel something from, and I'm all for a song that makes you feel or makes you think.
Now, even though I mentioned the song was a bit stripped down, it actually has guitars, vocals, and a bass, so it's just lacking drums, but it actually works better for the aesthetic of the song without them.
You can pay a lot more attention to the lyrics, and it still has a great bop to it with a pop-coated underbelly that comes through with a colorful and vibrant approach that you want to just wrap your arms around and hold on to.
By the second core is around she starts doing harmonies and her vocal approaches just perfect for the track because it has this sort of indie style to it and the texture and tone of the vocals works amazingly with the guitars so you have these beautiful layers of sound that sit atop each other and give you what feels like a lush song even though it doesn't have tons of instruments piled onto it.
The energy and approach to this feels almost like a live performance which is something I absolutely love.
When you listen to the track, you feel like you're right there in the moment watching it happen, and that brings you closer and connects you even more to the sentiment.
Upon listening to this track, I took a bit of a deep dive into her back catalog on Spotify, and there was a ton of stuff that really blew my mind.
A track released last year called "Read All About It" has a bit more of a full body approach with drums involved, and it's got this jazzy undertone and this open-ended, forward-moving flow that feels great.
What's great about her music is that she never loses sight of that personal feel. The songs always feel like they could have been written for you or that she's giving little pieces of herself in her songs.
It's almost like the songs serve as chapters in her life, and this is how she expresses what they meant to her.
The artist also delves in and out of different production styles, as there is a record from 2023 called The Starry Night, which encompasses more of a crisp pop approach.
You still have some guitar and vocal songs that are more singer-songwriter style, but there are plenty of other production elements to the record that have different aesthetics and feels to them. Beats, keys, and more flow through the veins of the album and give it a different pop approach altogether.
This record, in particular, was outstanding and pretty big. It spans about 16 tracks in length.
This keeps going, and there is a ton for you to listen to in that back catalog, all feeling genuine, authentic, charismatic, colorful, and showing her love for the craft of songwriting.
You can clearly tell that Samantha is someone who is in her happy place when she's recording.
A lot of her music is written with fewer boundaries than you may be used to, but I found it quite exhilarating and refreshing, to be honest.
We need more artists like Samantha Jessalyn so we can have more realness in music. More honesty, inner thought spilling out, and songs that we connect with.
I would start with this single but absolutely work your way back through her catalog because, again, there are tons to listen to and all well worth it.
Check this out and see how it affects you.
