An album release from Gertie Fox delivers a soiree of rock tonalities in the form of 10 tracks that span from garage, indie, and pop rock to a sort of vintage sounding classic rock and you can hear these different influences being infused into the music with different tracks that play through.
The Radio Fiction album is endlessly fun and one of the things that I adore the most about it is the energy levels because it feels almost like most of this record was recorded live on the floor and the players involved were just feeding off of each other's energies the entire time.
This gives the song such an alive and breathing kind of feel and even if I'm wrong about the whole live on the floor aspect, listening to this record makes you want to go see them perform because if the record captures the energy this well then seeing them live in your face must be awesome.
The guitar tones have a little bit of a range from a slightly fuzz rock drive which brings in the whole garage aspect, to that classic rock tonality as well but it all comes together perfectly and a lot of these songs have a pop coating to them that makes them super fun,
You can tell these guys have an absolute blast doing their thing and that the entire record is a passion project and sort of an ode to the bands that they listened to growing up.
One of the other things I really love about this record is the fact that it's got musical hooks all over it.
Yes, there are plenty of choruses and vocals hooks that get stuck in your head for hours or even days after the fact, and the only way to satiate that is to play the songs again, however, there's also guitar hooks which is something that I've missed in rock music for quite some time now.
I'm not even sure that I realized that's what I was missing until I heard this record but now that I have, I know that having a guitar hook stuck in your head just as much as a chorus melody is something that is important in rock music.
These guys have a youthful kind of drive and an amazing balance in terms of not only that energy but the textures of the songs themselves between the guitar tones, the drumming, the bass lines and tone, and the vocals as well.
Everything in this band instrumentally, seems to complement each other.
You also get these great little vocal harmonies that pop in and out throughout the songs giving them these catchy elements and boppy rhythms and that's part of why the record is so insanely danceable and lovable.
Again, you can certainly hear this almost 70 style classic pop rock influence and a bunch of these tracks but none of it is really over the top.
The performances are really all on point and they managed to capture this sort of semi-vintage aesthetic that has a way of wrapping itself around you.
This is also the kind of album that you listen to as a whole because if you only catch a few tracks from this record then you're not really getting the full spectrum of what it has to offer.
This is certainly for people who love classic sort of garage rock tone and songs that give a vibrancy in the energy because those of the aspects that are really infectious.
And absolutely killer record from a band I'm definitely going to be paying a little more attention to from here on out check out radio fiction when you get a chance and if I were you, I would also dive into their catalog on Spotify as there is a ton of outstanding releases ranging from 2018, when this record was released all the way through 2020.
This doesn't include multiple LPs by the way.
Check this out and don't be afraid to turn it up.
