An album release from Unity Moon brings with it a lush and beautiful soundscape with an approach that comes through stripped down at first, but then grows into an atmosphere that you can swim through, and during the whole process you get this wondrous honesty and a build in instrumentation that helps the album feel alive and breathing.
The self-titled LP is bursting with persona and that gets quite intense the more you listen through the record.
But there's something about these songs that feel connected almost like this is a concept album of sorts, even if it's not, you know that these songs all come from someplace real like life experience so a lot of it is quickly relatable and that in itself lets you get attached to the record.
Some of these songs have such descriptive stories but a combination of both straightforwardness and metaphor that both managed to come together sometimes in a single track, and it all still makes perfect sense.
This record is heavily acoustic guitar based but you get some additional instrumentation throughout it that beef it up a little bit and also help both that emotional drive that a lot of this really was born from.
You can clearly tell that these songs have meaning and depth to them and when you listen to them sometimes, they can even cause memories of your own to pop into your head at random which is something I've missed when listening to a record for quite some time so to hear it now is very refreshing.
The whole album was recorded in a particular way where it has elements of an almost lo-fi aesthetic but that actually adds to that rawness and emotion, so it works really well for this particular record.
The energy levels are beautiful and very balanced from beginning to end so you're able to flow and swim with the record as each song takes you on these little sorts of musical journeys.
Listening to this album gives you these hints of nostalgia here and there and that has a lot to do with the lyrics of course.
It's almost as if some of the songs were written just for you or could have definitely served as the soundtrack to certain chapters in your own life and because of that you become connected.
Again, that energy level on a lot of songs makes it feel like some of these were recorded live on the floor and even if that's not correct, I mean I wasn't there for the recording of course, it still makes you want to go see this live in your face.
The whole thing is infectious, and you can feel a lot of it in your bones.
After the first listen you want to put your fists in the air and sing along at the top of your lungs.
Although there are several songs that stand on their own two feet very well as singles, I would heavily suggest listening to this album from start to finish because I feel like that's how it was meant to be soaked in.
Either way, definitely jump on this one you can because you don't want to miss it.
