An Expansive and Atmospheric Release from Sambox & Anita Barbereau

An expansive new release from Sambox and Anita Barbereau delivers a beautiful and vast combination of atmospheric and transcendent electronic soundscapes that feel like floating in an ocean staring up at the stars and thinking about your past, with gorgeous natural instrumentation like cello and all of this creates such welcoming and aesthetically breathtaking tonalities that it serves almost like an escape.

The Yamato Damashii EP features three tracks and each one takes you on this musical journey that pulls you away from your surroundings and puts you in a completely different place altogether which I feel is a gift musically.

You have these drips of percussive electronic tones and soundscapes with synth pads bringing atmospheric attributes that are met with such graceful string performances that you really can just get engulfed by everything which is a good thing because once you're in this atmosphere, you don't want to leave it.

To me, this release felt very cinematic but also almost like reading a good book because you get these sorts of emotions and sonic atmospheres that come in waves, so the songs feel alive and breathing and you also have some space for your imagination to run wild.

Each listener will interpret this a little differently, but they will get the gist of the emotion and color behind each track which I find quite amazing and all of it comes through with these different levels of intensities that let the record have an alluring approach.

You have keys that add scattered melody, and I adore what feels like a combination of improvisation and arrangement coming together just as much as I adore the natural and digital instrumentation coming together.

I feel like that's one of the key elements of how this record has such a forward-moving flow that feels so natural.

And it certainly does have that natural feel to it.

When I listened to this the first time, I had memories come in and out and that was a unique thing for me because it's not a common thing.

It takes a lot for music to pull memories like that, but this release did it non-stop.

Those are the attributes that make this record so incredibly connective.

It leaves an impact on you, and you want to listen to the EP from start to finish which is only about 13 or 14 minutes long, so you have the time.

Trust me, it's well worth it because this is not only strangely calming but also pulls you through a small range of emotions that can really set your mind straight to an extent.

More inexperienced than just a record and I loved spending that 14 minutes exploring it because there's an inner being to the whole thing and an ethereal underbelly that you tap into right off the bat and because of that the record actually has a personality or a character to it which sticks strongly throughout the course and unfolding of these songs.

And absolutely lush and robust, full-bodied but flowing and spacious release that can wrap itself around you and keep you right where it wants to, listen to Yamato Damashii as soon as you can and I suggest doing so with headphones on so you can soak in all the notes and sounds, textures and emotions that are happening throughout these tracks.

A beautifully performed, arranged, and well-thought-out release that features elements of improvisation, and culture that you don't get to normally listen to on your day-to-day.

This is not only expansive musically, but it will expand your mind as well.

Take a listen to this record and see how it affects you.
