An Intense and Alluring Pop Record from Cera Gibson

Writer: R.A.G.R.A.G.

A brand-new release from Cera Gibson delivers a soiree of edgy and alluring pop approaches that come through as almost theatrical half the time, and throughout its unfolding, you get glimpses into different sides of her personality and artistry.

pinksoak is a record that utilizes a lot of soul, swagger, charisma, a bit of vivaciousness, and this unique attitude that has a bite to it but also a bit of vulnerability.

It's a unique record, and the production throughout this release is surprising and outstanding the entire time. There are no two songs alike. No track on this record that is simply cookie-cutter.

These tracks are outside-the-box and give off vast cinematic undertones at times that engulf you in the best ways possible.

The record's opener, "I Found God", is an absolute banger, but it starts off with a slow burn, and as that builds up to the full track, you're already addicted and pulled into her world.

This is an amazing introduction to the record because it gives you a glimpse of what you can expect in certain aspects of her soundscapes.

Vocally, she's got tons of soul and sings with passion, but, again, keeps to this sort of edgy vibe. This is part of its allure and addictiveness.

This song is followed by one called "Friends", where she opens up even more lyrically and gives a bit more detail and sensuality.

She has a way with lyrics that grabs you. She gets you paying attention and although these first few songs give those glimpses of what you might expect, there's a lot more to it than just what you've heard so far.

This is an EP you listen to from start to finish simply because there are surprises around the corners, and that's the way it was meant to be heard.

These are stories she's giving, along with inner thought, personality, and loads of character just spilling out for everyone to soak in.

If you listen to one or two tracks, you'll start picking up on those aspects, but those songs alone will not give you the full spectrum of what the EP has to offer as a whole.

This release is an experience. It will pull you away from whatever you're doing and whatever you are and put you in her world for a glimpse of time.

"Friends" will give you an understanding of how songs are arranged throughout the record. A lot of these tracks have a unique build and start with more of a subtle form, so you're paying attention to those lyrics and getting wrapped up in the softer and silkier aspects. It's not long before these tracks build into big, expansive, sometimes vaster, sometimes edgier and harder-hitting soundscapes.

She has a beautiful way of letting songs build in intensity, and these waves of intensities come and go throughout the record.

Again, this does feel theatrical in a sense. When you're done with the EP, it feels like you've watched some kind of show, and I love that it puts you in the moment in a way.

One of my favorite songs on the record is the closing track, "Eclipse", which showcases her incredible vocal range, passion, soul, and harmonization skills.

This is one of the lusher tracks on the record vocally, and you really just get enveloped in all these layers of vocal textures so much that you can swim through them.

This was a gorgeous EP, built with fewer boundaries than you may be used to, but still with a wonderful pop coating, edgy addictiveness, and more character than you might be able to handle.

I suggest you give it a try because it's more than worth your time.

Take a deep dive into this EP as soon as you can and see what it does for you.
