An Interview With Circadia

A fresh and vibrant new release from Circadia comes through with a sheen and vast synth backed soundscape that plays out into a massively pop oriented banger with touches of that vintage undertone and a heavily cinematic approach that really has you fiending for more classic synth textures.

"Determined" is engulfing but crisp and refreshing. It's got a polish and atmosphere to it that makes you feel as though you're embarking on a journey of sorts. It's adventurous and nostalgic to an extent and it feels amazing.

This was bright and incredibly colorful to go along with its lush and full-bodied style and approach.

Vocals are robust and action packed with a gusto and the whole thing not only has a crazy energy but a certain charm that you come to love quickly. The sound of this song becomes something you want to be around.

After listening to this track, you actually kind of feel like you stepped out of a great film.

With the release of such a fun and engulfing single, we wanted to have a chat with Circadia to find out where this all came from and what may be next for them.

Here's what happened.

RAG: Okay so let's start with the "Determined". This song has a great driving and cinematic feel to it! Where did this single come from?

The song is a rather personal ones to me, it's honestly calling me out on my own struggles of being so stubborn about wanting what I want my future to be and wanting it right now... Ever since I was a kid I wanted a music career where we tour over 200 days a year and get to travel the world spreading the crucially important message we have as a band, which is the message of Hope and Love in this super dark and twisted world. Determined is about me being determined to have what I want, however, I keep forgetting sometimes what really matters through the whole journey, learning as we go in our music career, forgetting the true foundations of my beliefs and morals, sometimes I admittedly am impatient with the results of where we are as a band because I'm human and am not perfect. But instead of being lost in my own head and what I want... I need to remember why we write and sing what we write and sing about... True unconditional Love, acceptance and hope. This is what truly matters. This song simply reminds me time and time again that there is hope for our future and for everyone's future.

RAG: So how did this all begin for you guys?

I (Nathan), started Circadia as a side project in 2018 as a way to dabble in the world of electronica music. At the time I had become rather interested in the genre and wanted to learn more about it and discover other artists. I met Alyssa just a few short days before our debut album released called "Seeking Completion" on November 8th 2019. It was then in January of 2021 that she joined as the other half of the duo we are! She is a great asset to the band and will only continue to be for years to come. We market ourselves as a duo, however, live we are a five piece band. The beginning of 2021 was also when we really started to take things seriously and pursue Circadia as our passion, and will eventually be our fervently driven career.

RAG: Who is in all your headphones right now?

We both love listening to a wide variety of music, currently I'm listening to Shinedown a lot... They are a big inspiration to me, my all time favorite band is Demon Hunter! And even though we don't "sound" like them they are a huge influence on my writing and music. Alyssa recently has really been into Memphis May Fire and Dylan Gardner to name a few. We also love bands like: Owl City, Skillet, Earth Wind and Fire, One OK Rock, Death Can For Cutie, Nickelback, For King and Country and many more...

RAG: What inspires you to write a song?

Both my own and other people's life experiences really... For example: though determined is about my own mental struggles about achieving my goals, I'm sure it can relate to many others as well in a different way. I was recently told by a close friend that even though my song often come from a darker more in your face reality place, they always have a positive resolve knowing that there's hope driving my every thought. I've even written a song about the fact that Alyssa and I have too much stuff and that it's a okay to get rid of some of it and donate it lol... Inspiration to write songs can come from anywhere at anytime.

RAG: I'm hearing some great styles on this song. Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

Though Demon Hunter is my all time favorite band, we have many different influences such as: For King and country, Skillet, Muse, Chvrches, A Day To Remember, Simple Plan, The Foo Fighters, Death Cab For Cutie, Crowder and many more...

RAG: What are you doing when you're NOT working on music?

Unfortunately, both of us currently have full time day jobs... Which we truthfully don't want lol... We both are avid dreamers and seek to have music as a career, I would also personally like to have a career in fitness and personal training, Alyssa is also very much into graphic design, creating lyric videos, flyers, album art etc... To name a few

RAG: Would you say live performances are a big part of what you do?

I can say that they very much will be, due to us getting married this year we haven't played many shows at all in 2022. However, 2023 on we plan on performing live way more often. We hope to get to the point where we regularly tour over 200 days a year every year.

RAG: What can your fans expect from you in the near future?

We have our sophomore full length album looking to come out early spring of 2023! This will be the sequel of our first album "Seeking Completion," the second album is called "Built From Heartache" we are so excited to share this whole album with the world! We currently have five singles out from it which "Determined" is one of them.

RAG: Before we go, what would you like to say to fans of the music?

We as a band are all about our mission statement which is the acrostic B.U.I.L.T which stands for Be kind, Use Your Gifts, Inspire Others, Love Unconditionally, and Try Your Best. These principles are of ut most importance to us and we do our best to live by them. We are only human, and will never be perfect... But we hope that what we sing about and write about will help drive home how important these five principles really are in such a dark world. Thank you sincerely for listening to us !
