A very intriguing and beautiful new release from Christopher Clarino delivers a unique soundscape based around percussion, vibraphone, synthesizer, and glockenspiel.
The record is separated into seven paths each with a particular delivery that has ways of surrounding you with expansive tonality and triggering emotion and mood throughout the process.
Parlando is a release that takes you to different places with each track and in doing so, you get engulfed by these vibrations and natural sets of tones that ring out and resonate with a beautiful spaciousness.
As the record unfolds you get pulled deeper into these complex and rhythmically intriguing approaches all with a brilliant and expressive style that breeds certain kinds of emotions.
This is almost like a state of mind and some of these pieces can put you in a bit of a trance which I enjoyed because getting washed away with these kinds of soundscapes is beautiful. Christopher Clarino is a bit of a virtuoso so when it comes to being a percussionist. This was an experimental and deepening release that combined different instruments and utilized vibraphone and synthesizer to create one single extended instrument.
Doing this lets the sounds ring out further and exemplifies a certain warmth.
There are pieces that bring in Glockenspiel performed by Barbara Monk Feldman who really elects the instrument to take shape and have a life of its own.
A lot of these pieces are alive and breathing in their own right and the whole record is something you need to sit down, put on some headphones, and soak in all at once.
You rarely get this form of an escape but with this record, that's exactly what you get. It is a beautiful escape and as you're listening to it all kinds of things will take shape visually in your mind and will also let your mind free to an extent.
These are pieces of music that will set a tone, or a mood and the reaction will be different for each listener. Your mind will go where it wants to while you're listening to these pieces and although the mood is set and these are sonically brilliant and thriving, you will still take you wherever it wants to.
Christopher has performed as a soloist from La Jolla and Ojai to Carnegie Hall and more.
This is a release that portrays his experience with using a shining Sonic tonality and percussion. Combining sounds and instruments together along with what feels scattered but are well-placed rhythmic signatures to build a very unique atmosphere.
Again, I suggest listening to this entire record and one shot as it is more than worth it.
Releasing under Neuma Records on March 21st, this was a beautiful and elegant set of pieces from Christopher Clarino, listen to Parlando as soon as you can.
