Coronus Returns with a Fresh Full-Length Album

Writer's picture: R.A.G.R.A.G.

Coronus returns with a whole new album that takes the previous work that he's done before and amplifies it all to the point where you're just completely engulfed in all of these gorgeous soundscapes as it blends everything from bedroom and dream pop to R&B and alternative pop with plenty in between. There is no exact genre that I would personally put this under, but this is part of why I'm so in love with this artist's approach to songwriting and producing.

The Dante, I Called Your Name is built in true Coronus Style with elevated scents, rambunctious Beats, natural flows, a wide range of vocal approaches, and this honesty that lets tons of inner thought spill out everywhere so you can soak it in.

There are a few reasons why this record stands out. One of them is the simple fact that it is not like a lot of music that you're used to listening to.

Although it is avant-garde and can be wild at times in terms of its songwriting, it still boasts a lot of catchy elements and melodic hooks that stay with you, and you end up humming some of those after the record is over of course.

This is a record that you listen to from beginning to end.

I know, I said that about the last one but guess what? That's just how these records are meant to be heard.

At times it feels like a concept album where songs connect but they do feel more like stories being told from a personal perspective and again, loads of that inner thought and emotional drive just pushing out.

On the vocal side of things, this is massively impressive and endlessly surprising. He takes an approach to singing that a lot of others wouldn't by using his voice almost like an instrument itself and adding layers of texture to the already bountiful soundscape.

The singing shows such a range, and I mean that both note-wise and style-wise. Not only does he hit a lot of lows and highs, and does so with heart, but he also changes the approach of how he sings from track to track almost like he's adapting his character to the vibe of the track.

This is a bit of an ever-changing record and one of the things I love about this artist in particular is that as you listen through one of his records you begin to expect the unexpected and you get exactly that.

There is a certain kind of feel and aesthetic to the album of course and that sticks but, there's also that outside-the-box element where you don't really know what you're going to hear next, but you know that it's going to be something that will grab you.

Going back to the lyrics, this is so descriptive and straightforward in terms of its truths and honesty, and this is part of the thing that gives it all of that robust personality.

This is not only a record you listen to all the way through, but you should listen to it a few times because the first time around won't grasp everything it gives.

It just has loads of layers musically and lyrically for you to peel back and drink in which is something that makes for quite an experience because as you listen to this record unfold, you really start to fall into these stories and emotions, perspectives, and characters.

It is almost like reading a book honestly.

Musically, this is ridiculous. There are so many inventive and experimental combinations of melody, texture, instruments, and tonalities that again, there's just a lot to drink in.

Plenty of these songs have a spacious undertone and you can hear theatrical style influences in the backdrop along with genres that blend in and out like dance pop, electronica, rock, and plenty more.

This record is about a half hour and spans 10 tracks all of which have something a little bit different to offer but stay within the realm of the Coronus world.

And trust me, this is its own world indeed.

But as I mentioned before, it's very relatable, super honest, and was likely massively cathartic for the artist to write and release, and something that you end up connecting with on a musical and lyrical level.

You certainly haven't heard a lot like this so I would definitely pop on headphones to listen to this record or listen to it in the car with no interruptions this way you can really catch those layers.

And again, you want to listen to this probably more than once because the second time around you start picking up on things that you missed the first time around.

A very intricately woven record that comes through with a particular kind of looseness and liveliness that lets it all come across authentically, check out Dante, I Called Your Name, and see how it affects you. See how this makes you feel.

Also, there are plenty of other ridiculously enticing and alluring releases from this artist that you can check out on Spotify and more. If you like this record, you're going to be into all of it.
