In an exciting announcement from RAG, Kat Von D has dropped the news on her forthcoming album, "My Side of the Mountain," along with a new single, "Illusion." Drawing inspiration from the beloved novel of the same name, Kat's new album delves into themes of love and sobriety. Behind the scenes, she has been striving to find peace amidst the chaos, focusing on family and music. "My Side of the Mountain" is set to drop on September 20th, featuring guest vocals from Alissa White-Gluz of Arch Enemy and LA songwriter Ferras. Fans can now pre-order the album and exclusive marble vinyl at www.KatVonD.com.
Kat has also released a new music video for "Illusion" on Youtube. Directed by Ryan Valdez (known for his work with Rise Against, Korn, and Stone Sour), the video takes viewers on a journey through the fields of her hometown, Vevay, Indiana. It serves as a poignant reflection on lost love and the deep, often painful emotions that accompany it. The video perfectly complements the single's dark pop nuances, showcasing Kat's distinctive style.
"Illusion" was penned by Kat Von D alongside acclaimed songwriters Shep Solomon (Enrique Iglesias, Kelly Clarkson, Natalie Imbruglia) and Fernando Garibay (Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Kylie Minogue). Kat's brand of disco goth is heavily influenced by synthwave, goth, new wave, post-punk, and other iconic electronic sounds of the '80s. Her music and lyrics, rooted in her experiences of love, darkness, and vulnerability, aim to captivate listeners with an ethereal and romantically macabre charm. Though the themes of her music may be dark, its allure is timeless.
"‘My Side Of The Mountain’ is a love letter to all the hopeless romantics, the outsiders, and lonely hearts trying to find their place in this cold and divisive world," Kat shares. "When I was a kid, I read the 1959 novel ‘My Side Of The Mountain’ and related deeply to the little boy who ran away from home, finding comfort in isolation, self-reflection, and self-reliance in the wilderness."
