A new release from Laklan delivers in a ray of pop sub genres that range from an alternative pop, to bedroom and even a bit of classic almost, new wave Styles as well and it's all put together within this double single release that connect with each other and this is where it gets interesting because these two songs have a very unique approach but definitely go hand in hand.
"I Would" is the first track and this is a little bit brighter and vivacious because it utilizes these vintage almost 1980s since and even some guitar sounds as well into the mix making it a little bit nostalgic at times but also taking that aesthetic and bringing it into a more current approach as well so you have this outstanding blend of old school and new school together within that one short track.
Even the way some of the vocals sound on the song hit that classic new wave underbelly at times and I dig that because there's a slight brooding in there, you get these great layers of space and vastness in the song's undertone as well, so it comes through very lush and full-bodied by the end of it.
There's a lot of fun during the creation of this track as well as attention to detail but the whole thing has a kind of personality or character to it actually and I feel like that's what you get attached to as well.
I love the way the vocals are done on this song because you get glimpses of harmonies, great melodies, and the whole tone of the vocal as well throughout this track but there's also a lot going on musically so, it's a lot to soak in when you first listen to it.
The song sort of flows right into "I Would, Pt.2" and this track comes in with a little bit of a different vibe. There's a sort of vocal transformer affect making the vocals come in really deep which is kind of like a very new school pop and almost hip-hop or R&B production approach and the whole thing more expansive tonality as well.
This track for me, was a bit more cinematic and easier to get engulfed by.
There is an air of mystery in a way, and I love the way the song evolves and unfolds because it's got some surprises around the corners and when those surprises hit you take a step back and it feels like you're in a new track to an extent.
About halfway through the single is where that flip happens and I love it because again, you really don't expect it but when it happens it sounds awesome because now you've stepped into a different soundscape all of a sudden and it feels like the first part of this track was just an intro to what you're hearing now.
The way it all connects together is quite brilliant and I love how the whole thing has its own atmosphere.
It's been a while since I've listened to something that sort of pulled me away from what I was doing and put me in this whole other world for a little bit.
This was very well thought out, but it also feels semi-improvised as well. I dig that aspect because it gives the song a little bit of a lively energy which it does indeed have, and that energy is something that becomes a bit infectious even if you don't notice it at first.
This was a very cool combination of pop approaches with great key and synth tones, arrangements that are outside the box, and a style that is a bit all of its own while being influenced by classic stuff and newer stuff alike.
I definitely took a little bit of a deep dive into Laklan's back catalog after listening to this track and I'm pretty glad I did because I found a self-titled EP from 2021 that was just ridiculous. The record is so good along with a few singles dropped back in 2019.
Some collaboration stuff as well and if you listen to everything you, you can kind of pick up on his evolution as an artist and that was really fun to do.
At any rate definitely check this track out and I suggest doing it with headphones on.
This is what we would call a maxi-single back in the day. It was a record released with an A-side and a B-side.
Listening to the track with headphones on really lets you soak in everything that's happening and it's the best way to listen to it in my opinion.
Check this record out and see how it affects you.
