Marcus: The Apex Predator!

The Newborn Fossil EP from Marcus: The Apex Predator! immediately grabbed my attention, and I couldn’t help but dive into its raw energy. This release perfectly blends heavy rock with alternative rock influences, creating a sound that feels familiar but refreshing. The songwriting is sharp and honest, hitting you with truths. The songs have a sense of freedom to them, like they’re meant to be played loud and proud, and you can really feel that electric charge throughout the entire EP.

What I love about Newborn Fossil is how it effortlessly weaves together elements of progressive rock with alternative and pop-punk vibes. The mix of these genres creates something slightly unpredictable, yet it all feels natural. There’s this balance between the heavy, crunchy guitar riffs and the punchy, upbeat rhythms that remind me of classic pop-punk. At the same time, I can hear traces of emo influences—emotional, raw, and always honest.

The vocals on this EP have this distinct, emotive quality that draws me in every time. There’s always a sense of authenticity in the way the vocals float over the powerful guitars creates this wide, open feeling that gives each track room to breathe, while still packing an emotional punch. The guitars themselves are massive, ringing out with fat chords.

Newborn Fossil is one of those EPs that feels like it was made for fans of alternative rock, pop-punk, and anyone who craves that honest, heartfelt sound. It captures the important things about the genres it draws from. It’s a record I’ll keep coming back to, not just because of the catchy hooks, but because it’s got plenty of raw, unfiltered lyrics, and exactly what I need to hear. If you love a mix of that alt-rock with a little punk energy and a dash of emo, this EP crushes it on most levels.
