Quaint Delusions Return With A Fresh Single

Quaint Delusions—comprising Kevin DeHart (drums), Steve Dicks (bass), Roger Hughes (guitar/vocals), and Michael Starks (vocals/guitar/keyboards/percussion)—continue their steady stream of releases with “Powers That Be,” a sharp, infectious single that blends irreverent humor with thoughtful musicianship.

The track wrestles with an absurdly intriguing question: If heaven exists, will it inherit earth’s flaws—grifters, snake oil salesmen, and all? It’s a tongue-in-cheek premise delivered with just the right balance of wit and sincerity, making it feel surprisingly profound despite its comedic undertones.

Musically, “Powers That Be” carries a scrappy charm, blending the raw energy of three- or four-chord punk with a melodic sensibility reminiscent of The Beatles—a hybrid that has become something of a calling card for Quaint Delusions. The arrangements feel deceptively simple, yet every element is meticulously placed to create an earworm of a track that rewards repeated listens.

Lyrically, the song is a standout, pairing sharp, evocative imagery with humor that’s both clever and accessible. It’s the kind of writing that paints vivid mental snapshots, making you chuckle one moment and pause to reflect the next. Quaint Delusions once again prove that they’re not just making music—they’re creating stories you’ll want to revisit again and again.
