Sanity return with the latest installment of their three-EP series and the release comes in with a thrashing death metal approach but also with that deepening and layered undertone that brings a unique darkness and edge to everything and pushes the theme of the release right from the start.
This second installment is called The Beast, and right off the bat, you get a feel for how intense things are going to be. You have orchestral depth, fiery and thrashing riffs that are performed with epic tightness and precision, and screeching vocals that claw at everything and cut through the soundscape giving the entire atmosphere a brutal underbelly.
"Kingdom" is an amazing song to introduce the record with because it gives you a glimpse into what you are preparing yourself for by diving into the rest of the release. The guitar work across the board is outstanding just as it was on their previous EP.
You can already feel the connection between the last EP and this one. There's a lot of that underlying connectivity in the sound and sentiment of these tracks and records.
The track is followed by "Plagues" which hits with crazy double kicks and melodic, widespread, expansive riffs and guitar tone along with melodic vocals that are belted out with beautiful intensity and giving the song an automatic anthem sort of feel.
This is riddled with thrash metal tonality and approach bringing an amazing set of elements together.
What this band does so well is they bring beauty to the chaos. Things are graceful, orchestral, deepening, vast, and also thrashing, heavy, aggressive, and massively intense.
Being able to take these elements and bring them together on such a crazy record is something that is not easy to accomplish but they have their approaches and their styles and can pull them off without a hitch.
This entire release was built with such an attention to detail which is something I absolutely adore about this band. This is for real metal fans. Fans of heavy and hard-hitting music that can cross into and out of subgenres at free will.
It's very cinematic, theatrical, and themed which of course, is part of the whole idea behind the set of eps being released.
The last EP, dubbed Revelation was released in 2023 and was absolutely immense.
The EP introduced the storyline and soundscape very well and wasted very little time getting as intense as possible with brilliant riffs and closed-fisted tones.
This EP follows suit but does so in a more expansive approach at times still keeping to that theatrical and edgy, dark feel but adding new elements to the table.
There is a certain kind of haunt that lurks just beneath the surface of this EP. The Beast is a massive record and when you listen to this one you should go back and listen to the Revelation EP as well.
The third installment of the three-EP series is set to be released in 2026 and as far as we know will be called Armageddon.
This will serve as the final chapter and I definitely can't wait to hear it because these guys capture such an amazing energy and fire with their releases and, they are produced extremely well with amazing balance, dynamically and tonally.
You can hear every no played, loads of amazing guitar work, harmonies, thrashing riffs, melodic backbone, and the drumming is always through the roof.
It's in the pocket but alive and breathing.
There's always that great sort of balance between the different vocal approaches as well and all of this comes down to breeding an atmosphere that is its own thing.
That is exactly what Sanity knows how to do best with their metal.
So, check out The Beast as it is released now, and you'll see exactly what I mean by all these layers of thick and fierce orchestral metal.
It is definitely something that you should be hearing.
