Sophie Chassée was born with a love of music. From an early age, she is singing songs with her mother and grandmother and playing the piano four-handed with them. And she is also listening closely to the band rehearsals of her mother, who plays the saxophone and keyboard, as well as the stirring sounds of her grandfather's Dixieland combo. And little Sophie is also practicing. With a plastic guitar in front of the mirror. And then, at the age of eleven, she buys a guitar and teaches herself to play it. And starts writing her own songs. Which she not only plays within the family circle, but also in public as part of a singer-songwriter slam. She wins. This event is followed by performance requests, photo shoots, video sessions and finally her first album. That ball is rolling on the way to being a professional musician. Before going any further – because we all know art can be unprofitable – she begins an apprenticeship as a stringed instrument maker. She brings her craftsmanship to such a level that she can handle all types of repairs on stringed instruments, including soldering electronics. But then she follows her heart, stops the job training and begins her mission of becoming a full-time professional musician. The native of Neuss – a city in the Lower Rhine region – decides to study music at the Osnabrück University of Music with a focus on electric guitar. But switches to electric bass and, through a student ensemble that was part of her training, she comes into contact with well-known musician and actor Alli Neumann’s guitarist. They are looking for support on bass for their concerts and choose Sophie – and suddenly she’s on stage and on tour. Among others, as the opening act for the famous German band AnnenMayKantereit (AMK). During the soundcheck Sophie lets loose a bit. Henning May, singer with AMK, sees this and is very impressed by her “crazy bass playing”. She completes her studies and becomes AMK's permanent live bassist. With a Höfner 182 in her hands that her bass-playing grandma left to her. But of course she continues to do her own thing as a singer-songwriter and modern fingerstyle guitarist, too. And the result of the 27-year-old’s hard work is the album – already her fifth! – “Attachment Theory”, with which she is now on tour in Germany. Mission full-time professional musician is underway!
